Fake Army Lieutenant Arrested in Delhi for Rs 70,000 Marriage Fraud

In Delhi, a fake Army Lieutenant, Dipanshu Nagar (23), duped a girl of Rs 70,000 by promising marriage. The police arrested him, and a fake uniform and ID card were recovered from the accused.

New Delhi: A fake Army Lieutenant has been exposed in the Shahdara area. Dipanshu Nagar (23) defrauded a girl of Rs 70,000 under the guise of marriage. The police apprehended him in Farsh Bazar as per the girl's plan. A fake Army uniform and ID card were recovered from the accused. DCP Shahdara stated that Dipanshu gained trust by posing as a Lieutenant and gradually extorted the money. A case has now been registered against the accused under cheating and forgery.

Girl Sought Police Help After Suspicion

The victim, Damini (28), resides in Bhola Nath Nagar with her family and runs a medical store in Noida. On September 1, 2025, Damini informed the police that Dipanshu falsely claimed to be an Army Lieutenant and extorted money from her by promising marriage.

After becoming suspicious, the girl arranged to meet Dipanshu at Farsh Bazar in Shahdara and sought police assistance. The police arrested the accused on the spot and seized a fake ID card and Army uniform from him.

Cheated by Showing a Fake Army ID Card

DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam stated that the accused, Dipanshu, gained the girl's confidence by showing a fake Army ID card. An Army uniform and other documents were also recovered from him, which clearly indicate that the accused had been planning such fraud for a long time.

The police mentioned that a thorough investigation is underway to determine if the accused had trapped anyone else in a similar manner previously.

Marriage Fraud Revealed in Court

According to information, a vegetable seller in Delhi approached the Karkardooma court seeking justice, stating that the woman he married had absconded with his jewelry and cash, committing fraud. This case is also related to cheating under the pretext of marriage.

In reality, this was the victim's second marriage, and it was discovered that the woman belonged to a different religion and her husband was still alive. The court ordered the police to register a case. A case has been registered at Kalyanpuri police station.

Police Engaged in Investigation

Shahdara police stated that interrogation of Dipanshu Nagar is ongoing. Efforts are being made to ascertain if the accused has trapped any other girl in a similar fashion. An investigation into the fake ID card, uniform, and digital transactions is being conducted to uncover the entire fraud network. The police have appealed to the public not to trust anyone immediately in matters of marriage or relationships and to remain vigilant in such cases.
