National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) has imposed a three-year ban on several athletes, including Gundeep Singh, the gold medalist in discus throw at the National Games. This ban comes under doping charges, as these athletes admitted to their offenses within 20 days of being charged.
Sports News: Gagandeep Singh, a gold medalist at the National Games and a representative athlete of the army, has received a three-year ban for violating doping rules. Gagandeep's sample tested positive in the doping test after his best performance of 55.01 meters in the men's discus throw at the Uttarakhand National Games. This case has created a sensation in the sports world, and several other players have also been banned by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).
Gagandeep's Doping Case and Punishment
30-year-old Gagandeep Singh won the gold medal in the men's discus throw event at the Uttarakhand National Games on February 12, 2025, with a throw of 55.01 meters. However, 'testosterone metabolites' were confirmed in his doping test after that. NADA temporarily suspended him after investigation. According to NADA rules, Gagandeep could have received a ban of up to four years because this was his first offense. However, he admitted his offense within 20 days of the investigation, which reduced his sentence by one year to three years.
The ban period will start from February 19, 2025. During this time, he will not be allowed to participate in any competition. In addition, his gold medal from the National Games will be withdrawn. It is likely that Haryana's Nirbhay Singh's silver medal will be converted to gold.
Other Players Also Get Relief in Punishment
Along with Gagandeep, two other track and field athletes, Sachin Kumar and Jainu Kumar, have also been given a three-year ban by NADA. Sachin's ban has been in effect since February 10, while for Jainu, this date is February 20. Both players also admitted their crimes quickly, which reduced their sentences by one year.
Similarly, judo player Monika Chaudhary, Nandini Vats, para powerlifter Umeshpal Singh, Samuel Vanlalatnpuia, weightlifter Kavinder, kabaddi player Shubham Kumar, wrestler Mugali Sharma, wushu players Aman and Rahul Tomar, including a minor wrestler, have also received a reduction in punishment under the same provision. The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) is taking strict action against doping in sports. NADA's rules clearly state that a player found guilty in doping cases will be given severe punishment, so that the credibility of sports is protected and the game remains fair.
