Sports News: Germany has successfully defended its Junior Hockey World Cup title for the eighth time, solidifying its dominance in junior hockey. The final match, held at the Chennai Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, saw Germany defeat Spain in a penalty shootout with a score of 3-2, despite the regulation time ending in a 1-1 draw.

This victory not only showcases Germany’s strength but also highlights the depth of their control within junior hockey. Spain continues to pursue its first Junior World Cup title.

Germany’s Record Performance

Throughout the 13-day tournament, Germany reached the final for the tenth time, claiming their eighth championship. Previously, they had secured the trophy in 1982, 1985, 1989, 1993, 2009, 2013, and 2023. This makes Germany the most successful team in junior hockey history, having won the most titles. Spain, on the other hand, has only secured bronze medals to date, having yet to reach the final and claim the championship.

Spain has won bronze medals in 2005 (Rotterdam) and 2023 ( भुवनेश्वर and राउरकेला). The tournament, hosted from November 28th to December 10th in Chennai and Madurai, featured participation from 16 teams.

Excitement of the Final Match

The final match between Germany and Spain was incredibly exciting. Justus Warregger scored a stunning field goal in the 26th minute, giving Germany an early lead. However, Spain responded swiftly, with Nicolás Mustaros scoring in the 33rd minute to equalize the score at 1-1. Penalty corners also played a crucial role throughout the match.

Spain dominated the first quarter, earning five penalty corners, but failed to convert them into goals. Germany also received three penalty corners, but were unable to score. The match went to a shootout, where Germany ultimately prevailed with a score of 3-2.

India Wins First Bronze Medal

In the bronze medal match preceding the final, India defeated Argentina 4-2, marking a historic achievement – India’s first-ever bronze medal in the Junior Hockey World Cup. Previously, India had secured two gold and one silver medals. For the fifth and sixth positions, Belgium defeated the Netherlands in a shootout 4-3. For the seventh and eighth positions, France defeated New Zealand 4-1. The tournament not only delivered a thrilling final but also featured highly competitive matches between other teams.
