Google introduced Android 17 and several new AI features at Android Show 2026, expanding its AI ecosystem with Gemini AI-based tools, smart call protection, advanced voice typing capabilities, and digital wellbeing controls.
According to the company, the new Android version could begin rolling out by June 2026, while additional AI features will be released in phases.
Google is preparing to add a new “Verified Financial Call” feature to Android with the aim of reducing online fraud. If a user has a bank’s official application installed on their device, the system will verify incoming calls. AI will attempt to identify whether the call is genuinely from the bank. The phone will also be capable of automatically disconnecting suspicious calls.
The company said the feature could help reduce banking fraud and OTP scam incidents.
Google is also developing Gemini AI as a personal assistant designed to support users based on their preferences, location, and budget. During food ordering, Gemini will be able to assist users from restaurant searches to menu selection.
However, due to security requirements, users will still need to complete the final payment step themselves. The company said it is focusing on making AI automation more useful and secure.
Google is also working on a new Android-based laptop called “Googlebook.” According to reports, the device will feature a Windows-like interface while running applications based on the Android ecosystem. The laptop may include Gemini AI support, a lightweight design, and extended battery life.
In addition, Gboard will receive a new AI voice typing feature called “Rambler,” which will be capable of understanding scattered words and converting them into structured text. Another feature called “Pause Point” is designed to help users control excessive social media and short-video usage by introducing a brief delay before applications open.
