Gorakhpur. A major commotion erupted in Banjara Tola, under the Pipiganj police station area, late Tuesday evening when an SOG team, arriving in plain clothes, was mistaken for criminals by the villagers. The misunderstanding escalated into a scuffle. During this incident, the accused whom the police had gone to apprehend took advantage of the situation and fled.
According to sources, the SOG team had arrived to arrest a wanted youth from Ward No. 12. As the team was in plain clothes, villagers grew suspicious that a criminal gang had infiltrated the village.
A crowd of villagers quickly gathered, and after an altercation, pushing and shoving ensued. As the situation deteriorated, Pipiganj police were informed and arrived at the scene. They managed to pacify the villagers and safely extract the SOG team.
Taking advantage of the commotion, the wanted accused disappeared from the spot. Police are currently conducting raids to apprehend him.
Officials stated that the entire incident is being investigated, and statements from the villagers are being recorded. Additionally, necessary instructions will be issued to teams to prevent such misunderstandings in the future.
