India Sets Sights on Hosting 2036 Olympics After Commonwealth Games Bid

India is preparing to reach new heights in the world of sports. After bidding for the Commonwealth Games 2030, India's sights are now set on hosting the Olympics in 2036. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already signaled this, and Ahmedabad is being presented as a potential host city.

Sports News: India has formally submitted its bid to host the Commonwealth Games 2030, and thereafter, the country has its eyes on the 2036 Olympics. To secure Olympic hosting rights, the interested country must first inform the International Olympic Committee (IOC) through a letter of interest. Subsequently, the IOC assesses the infrastructure, sports facilities, transportation, security, and economic capacity of the proposed city and country.

The selection process requires the submission of detailed bid books, government guarantees, and financial plans. Following this, IOC members visit the candidate cities to prepare reports, and the host city is then chosen through voting. This process will determine whether India will be able to host the 2036 Olympics.

Olympic Hosting Process

The responsibility of deciding the host of the Olympic Games lies with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Any country or city has to go through a long and complex process to secure hosting rights. This process is divided into four main stages.

Step 1: Continuous Dialogue

First, there is a preliminary dialogue between the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of the country seeking to host and the IOC. During this, the city or region where the event is feasible is discussed. This step is entirely based on sharing information and understanding possibilities.

Step 2: Games Plan Outline

In this phase, continuous dialogue continues between the NOC and the IOC. The IOC assesses the readiness of the proposed city or region for the Olympics and the types of facilities available there.

  • The host city must prepare a Games Plan.
  • This includes all aspects related to infrastructure, sports venues, facilities for athletes and spectators, transportation, security, and technology.
  • The IOC also examines how the event will bring long-term benefits to the local citizens and the city.

Step 3: Targeted Dialogue

When the IOC believes that a country or city is serious about hosting and its preparations are robust, it is invited for a targeted dialogue. Several crucial aspects are discussed in this process, such as:

  • Estimated cost of the event
  • Environmental Impact
  • Support from the local population
  • Infrastructure and security arrangements

The IOC's Future Host Commission conducts a thorough study of all these points and prepares a report.

Step 4: Voting and Selection

If more than one country bids for a particular year, the IOC conducts a final vote. During this:

  • All candidate countries present their Final Presentation at the IOC Session.
  • Following this, IOC members vote through a secret ballot.
  • The country that receives a majority then signs the Host City Contract with the IOC.
  • With this, the city and country are officially awarded the hosting rights for the Olympics.

India has recently bid for the Commonwealth Games 2030. Ahmedabad has been proposed as the candidate city for this. If India successfully hosts a major event like the Commonwealth Games, it will prove to be a b step towards Olympic hosting in the future.
