Government-owned oil marketing companies on Friday announced an increase of Rs 3 per litre in petrol and diesel prices, marking a major revision in fuel rates after more than four years. The price hike is expected to directly impact consumers and vehicle owners across the country after fuel prices remained largely stable for several months.
The increase in fuel prices comes amid a rise in global crude oil prices linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and disruptions in global oil supply. According to reports, crude oil prices in the international market have risen by nearly 50 percent in recent months. Supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz have added pressure on global energy markets. India imports a significant share of its crude oil requirements, making domestic fuel prices sensitive to international market movements.
Analysts said the rise in fuel prices could also increase transportation costs, food supply expenses, and the prices of daily-use commodities.
According to the latest rates issued by state-run oil companies, petrol prices in major cities are as follows:
New Delhi — Rs 97.77 per litre
Mumbai — Rs 106.68 per litre
Kolkata — Rs 108.74 per litre
Chennai — Rs 103.67 per litre
Gurugram — Rs 98.42 per litre
Noida — Rs 97.97 per litre
Bengaluru — Rs 106.17 per litre
Bhubaneswar — Rs 104.16 per litre

New Delhi — Rs 90.67 per litre
Mumbai — Rs 93.14 per litre
Kolkata — Rs 95.13 per litre
Chennai — Rs 95.25 per litre
Gurugram — Rs 90.89 per litre
Noida — Rs 91.20 per litre
Bengaluru — Rs 94.10 per litre
Bhubaneswar — Rs 95.71 per litre

Jaipur — Rs 93.03 per litre
Lucknow — Rs 90.69 per litre
Patna — Rs 95.10 per litre
Thiruvananthapuram — Rs 99.45 per litre
The increase in diesel prices is also expected to affect freight movement and public transportation costs. Petrol and diesel prices vary across states due to differences in Value Added Tax (VAT) and other local levies imposed by state governments. While petrol is priced at Rs 97.77 per litre in Delhi, the rate in Hyderabad has reached Rs 110.85 per litre. Similar variations are visible in diesel prices because of differing tax structures.
