Prayagraj. Indian Railways has taken a significant step to strengthen the safety of freight trains. Now, all wagons standing in yards across the country will undergo mandatory inspections every morning and evening. This system has been implemented with the aim of preventing incidents such as theft, negligence, and uncontrolled rolling of wagons.
Under the new system, the condition of every wagon present in the yard will be inspected. This will involve checking that handbrakes are properly applied, wheel-stopping blocks are in the correct position, and safety equipment is secure. If chains, skid blocks, or other items are found missing anywhere, alternative arrangements will be made immediately.
Railways took this step following a recent serious incident. In that incident, due to the theft of safety equipment from wagons, several coaches rolled uncontrolled for a considerable distance, narrowly averting a major accident. The investigation also revealed that wagons were not being regularly checked.
Railway officials state that the new system will not only improve safety but also increase the accountability of employees. Businesses involved in freight transport and industry organizations are also welcoming this move, as it will enhance both the reliability and security of goods transportation.
The Railways' objective is that regular inspections will prevent any situation that could endanger goods, infrastructure, or human life in a timely manner.
