Indian equity markets ended lower on Wednesday after an initial rise of around 300 points in the Sensex gave way to selling pressure. The BSE Sensex declined 183.15 points, or 0.24%, to close at 77,472.94, while the NSE Nifty fell 0.52%, or about 127 points, to settle at 24,207.75.
The Sensex opened with a gain of around 300 points but failed to sustain the early momentum as selling pressure emerged during the session. The benchmark index remained volatile throughout the trading day and ended in negative territory amid weakness in several large-cap stocks.

The Nifty opened at 24,341.95 but also lost its early gains during the session. It closed at 24,207.75, down 0.52%, or about 127 points.
Buying was seen in some banking stocks, while weakness in IT and other major companies weighed on the broader market.
Among the major Sensex constituents, Kotak Mahindra Bank was one of the best performers. Its shares gained 3.53% and closed at ₹416.20. Buying in banking stocks provided some support to the market, although it was not sufficient to sustain the broader market’s early gains.
In the IT sector, Infosys came under selling pressure, with its shares declining 1.94%. Bharti Airtel, Power Grid and Tech Mahindra were also among the major stocks that declined.
