The investigation into the high-profile Raja Raghuvanshi murder case in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, is progressing rapidly. The eight-day remand of the five accused, including Sonam arrested by Shillong police, has concluded. The police will now produce all the accused before the court again.
Shillong: The Raja Raghuvanshi murder case has unravelled a chilling plot stemming from an extramarital affair. Raja Raghuvanshi, a resident of Indore, who had arrived in Shillong with dreams of a new life, was murdered by his own wife and her lover, shocking the entire nation. According to the latest updates, Meghalaya Police has almost solved the mystery surrounding Raja's murder.
The eight-day remand of all five accused, including Sonam Raghuvanshi, arrested on charges of murder, has now ended. The police will now present them before the Shillong court.
Remand Ends, But Investigation Continues
According to police sources, the investigation is ongoing at multiple levels. Interrogation of the accused has provided several clues, revealing the detailed script of the entire murder. Police may seek an extension of the remand for all five to gather further evidence. Sonam Raghuvanshi, Raja's wife, is accused of being the mastermind behind the murder. Just two weeks after her marriage, she allegedly conspired with her lover, Raj Kushwaha, and three other accomplices to murder her husband.
How the Plot Was Hatched
Raja and Sonam went missing from Shillong on May 23rd. Following concerns from family members, the local police registered a missing person's report and launched a search. On June 2nd, Raja's body was found in a deep ravine, changing the course of the investigation. The condition of the body led police to suspect murder, accelerating the investigation.
Sonam was arrested a few days later in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where she surrendered. Interrogation revealed that Sonam wanted to marry Raj Kushwaha, but due to family pressure, she married Raja and later decided to eliminate him.
Three Attempted Murders
The investigation revealed that Raja's murder was not a spontaneous act but a premeditated plot. Three previous attempts were made to kill Raja before he reached Shillong. The first attempt was in Guwahati, the second near Nongriat village, and the third at Weisaidong Waterfalls. However, circumstances were not favorable on those occasions. Finally, on May 23rd, he was brutally murdered near the ravine.
Search for Weapons and Evidence Continues
Police have recovered a dao (large knife) from the scene, while another dao was thrown into the same ravine where Raja's body was found. The forensic team is working to retrieve this dao. Meanwhile, police have recreated the crime scene to understand the nuances of the events. They are also collecting digital evidence, including call details, WhatsApp chats, and financial transactions.
Meghalaya Police will appeal to the court for an extension of the remand for all five accused. According to the police, several aspects of the case require further investigation—including the procurement of the murder weapon, the involvement of others in the planning, and the potential role of any local individuals in the conspiracy.
