Four years ago, Haryana's Piccadily Agro Industries launched Indri, which gained global recognition by becoming the best-selling single malt whisky in India in 2024. Its hallmark is rapid maturation, excellent quality, and precise packaging, which has surpassed even Scotch brands.
New Delhi: Indri, the Indian single malt whisky, has taken the global stage by storm in just four years. Launched by Piccadily Agro Industries of Haryana, this whisky became the best-selling Indian single malt in 2024, surpassing iconic Scotch brands like Glenlivet and Glenfiddich. Its rapid maturation, depth of flavor, excellent packaging, and reasonable price have won consumers' trust and earned international awards.
Global Awards and Recognition
Indri has won several international awards since its launch. In 2024, the Indri Diwali Collectors Edition won a gold medal at the Whiskies of the World Awards. This achievement is a matter of pride for Indian single malts, as previously only brands like Amrut and Paul John had gained global recognition. Indri has proven that Indian single malts are now b contenders in international competition, surpassing prestigious Scotch brands like Glenlivet and Glenfiddich.
Growing Popularity in India
The IWSR Drinks Market Analysis report indicates that in 2024, for the first time, sales of Indian single malt whisky exceeded those of Scotch whisky. This was primarily driven by increasing consumer net-pride and confidence in quality. Indian customers are now prioritizing Indian Single Malt over Scotch.
Indri set a record by selling 100,000 cases in its second year and has become recognized as the fastest-growing single malt whisky in the world. According to media reports, its sales increased by 599 percent, and it has gained a 30 percent market share in India.
The Speciality of Indri
Several factors contribute to making Indian single malt whisky special. Due to India's hot climate, there is 10 percent or more evaporation in the barrels each year, while in Scotland, it is only 2-3 percent. As a result, Indian single malts are opened in just 5 to 8 years, while Scotland requires longer aging. This also affects its taste, which is deep and balanced.
In addition, Indri's balance of quality, packaging, and price makes it unique in the market. This whisky is special not only in taste but also in the consumer experience. In India, it has been presented as a premium whisky while keeping its price appropriate, which gives customers confidence in both value and quality.
Production and Global Expansion
Piccadily Agro Industries recorded a 40 percent volume growth in its IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) division in FY25. The company has invested over ₹500 crore in production capacity, warehousing, and global expansion. The purpose of this investment is to further enhance Indri's global recognition and increase production.
Indian Single Malt Dominance in the Market
Now, not only Amrut and Paul John but also new brands like Indri, Rampur, and Godawan are making their mark bly in the Indian single malt market. The success of these brands shows that the quality of Indian whisky is now no less than any competitor at the international level.
