Jammu and Kashmir has once again demonstrated its excellence under the 'One District One Product' (ODOP) scheme, setting a new benchmark by winning the Gold Medal at the National ODOP Awards 2024. By securing this prestigious award for the second consecutive year in Category-B (States), Jammu and Kashmir has solidified its distinct identity across the country.
Furthermore, Pulwama and Ganderbal districts were also honored with Silver Medals for their efforts in promoting their ODOP products, in Category-A (Agriculture) and Category-B (Non-Agriculture) respectively. The national award ceremony was held at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
Overwhelming Participation from Across the Country
This year's ODOP Awards witnessed a record level of participation from across the country. A total of 641 applications were received from 587 districts across 31 states/union territories and 23 Indian embassies. It was a major event recognizing India's cultural heritage, traditional skills, and local entrepreneurship.
The award was received on behalf of the Jammu and Kashmir government by Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce, and Sudershan Kumar, Managing Director of the Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO).
Active Role of JKTPO and District Achievements
The JKTPO, functioning as the nodal agency for ODOP in Jammu and Kashmir, has made remarkable efforts to bring local products to national and international recognition. This is the reason why Jammu and Kashmir has received this gold honor for the second consecutive time.
Pulwama district received a Silver Medal in Category-A for successfully promoting its agricultural-based products, while Ganderbal district received a Silver honor in the non-agricultural category. These awards were received by Dr. Basharat Qayyum, Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama, and Jatin Kishore, Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal.
Jammu and Kashmir's Special Recognition at the National Level
The ODOP award ceremony this year honored outstanding performers in the district and state categories, as well as in the foreign mission category. The event served as an important platform to encourage efforts towards a self-reliant India, while empowering local crafts, agriculture, and industry.
The visionary leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Chaudhary has also played a crucial role in Jammu and Kashmir's success, giving a new direction to the economic and cultural development of the region.
Future Strategy Prepared
JKTPO has announced that it is working on a comprehensive plan to further accelerate the promotion of ODOP products in the coming time. This plan will focus on promoting the unique product identity of each district, increasing market access, and strengthening brand value.
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, congratulated the award winners and urged them to continue their efforts to promote ODOP products to empower local weavers, artisans, and farmers.
