The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) has made a significant move in Maharashtra by appointing new leadership to its organization. Former minister and current Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Shashikant Shinde has been appointed as the new state president of the party. He succeeds Jayant Patil, who held the position for the past eight years. Upon assuming his new responsibility, Shinde made it clear that his mission is to bring the party back to power in Maharashtra.
I will work day and night
Immediately after taking charge, Shashikant Shinde, in a conversation with the media, made a significant statement, saying that he would soon tour the entire state and present the government's policies to the public. He said, "Our goal is to bring the party back to power. I will work day and night for this." Shinde also clarified that he would focus on strengthening the organization at the grassroots level and make efforts to promote youth.
He further added, "If needed, we will not hesitate to take to the streets against the government's anti-people policies." On this occasion, he remembered the late leader and former Home Minister R.R. Patil, saying that he would engage in public relations and ground-level politics like him.
I got the opportunity among many seniors
Regarding his appointment, Shashikant Shinde said that it is a matter of pride to receive this responsibility among many experienced leaders. "I will try my best to do justice to it. R.R. Patil showed that even an ordinary leader can do great things; I will also follow in his footsteps," he said.
Reacting to the current political situation, Shinde said that today, people are being influenced by money and the lure of power in politics. However, his party will remain steadfast against such practices and promote an alternative political culture.
The challenge of rebuilding the organization
Shashikant Shinde is a senior leader from Western Maharashtra and has been considered close to Sharad Pawar since the formation of the NCP. Even after the party's split, he did not leave the Pawar faction. Known for his organizational skills and b hold among the workers, the party expects a good performance from Shinde in the upcoming local body elections.
In the recent Lok Sabha elections, where the party performed well, it had to be content with only 10 seats in the assembly elections held a few months later. In such a scenario, Shinde faces the significant challenge of strengthening the organization once again and establishing the party as an effective alternative in the state's politics.
