Bollywood Stars Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan Oppose Supreme Court's Stray Dog Removal Order

The Supreme Court's recent order to remove stray dogs from the streets of Delhi-NCR and relocate them to shelter homes has sparked a new debate across the country. This decision has become a subject of public discussion.

Janhvi-Varun Opposes SC: The Supreme Court's recent order to remove stray dogs from the streets of Delhi-NCR and relocate them to shelter homes has ignited a new debate nationwide. This decision is not only a topic of discussion in social and legal circles, but Bollywood celebrities are also openly expressing their opinions on it. Actress Janhvi Kapoor and actor Varun Dhawan have registered their protest on social media, calling the order cruel and unfair.

Supreme Court's Order and Controversy

Recently, the Supreme Court directed that stray dogs be removed from the streets of Delhi-NCR and placed in shelter homes. The court argued that the safety of children and the general public is paramount and should not be compromised under any circumstances.
During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated that just because some people consider themselves "animal lovers," the safety of children and infants cannot be compromised. However, this comment and the decision have angered animal welfare organizations, pet lovers, and many ordinary citizens.

Janhvi Kapoor's Emotional Appeal

Janhvi Kapoor shared a petition on her Instagram story, writing that street dogs are not just "stray" animals, but they are a part of our society. She wrote in the post:

'These are the same dogs who wait for biscuits outside tea shops in the morning, guard shops at night, and happily wag their tails to welcome children returning from school.'

Janhvi emphasized that imprisonment is not the solution to every problem. She believes that removing these animals from the streets and locking them up in shelters is neither a practical nor an ethical solution. Instead, policies such as large-scale sterilization, vaccination, community feeding zones, and adoption campaigns should be adopted.

Varun Dhawan's Support

Actor Varun Dhawan also shared this petition on his Instagram story, opposing the decision. Varun has been living with pets for a long time and has spoken out on animal rights issues on several occasions. He termed the order as unjust towards animals, saying that the solution should always be balanced and sensitive.

Raveena Tandon Also Protested

Earlier, actress Raveena Tandon had also expressed her opinion on this matter. In an interview given to HT City, she said: It is wrong to blame them for the increasing number of stray dogs. If the local bodies had properly conducted timely vaccination and sterilization campaigns, this situation would not have arisen. She emphasized that local administrations must take responsibility for the stray dogs in their respective areas, and sterilization is the greatest need of the hour.

This case has now turned into a broader social debate. On one hand, the court and the government argue that public safety is a priority, while on the other hand, animal lovers say that removing and imprisoning stray dogs will neither solve the problem nor is it a humane approach.
Animal rights activists also believe that keeping animals in large-scale shelters will put pressure on resources and affect their quality of life.
