Controversy at Guruvayur Temple: Actress Jasmin Jaffer's Reel Sparks Outrage

A controversy has erupted at Kerala's famous Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple after actress Jasmin Jaffer created an Instagram reel in the sacred pond. Following the video's virality, devotees and cultural organizations expressed outrage, and the temple administration decided to conduct a special Punyaham (purification ritual).

Entertainment: Bigg Boss fame actress Jasmin Jaffer has sparked a new controversy by creating a reel in the sacred pond of the Guruvayur Temple in Kerala. After the video surfaced, the temple administration, Guruvayur Devaswom Board, has announced that a Punyaham (purification ritual) will be held in the pond. In this viral video, Jasmin Jaffer is seen entering the pond with a non-Hindu participant, where the Instagram reel was being made. This incident has caused resentment among devotees and cultural organizations.

What is the reason for the controversy?

Bigg Boss fame actress Jasmin Jaffer filmed a reel in the Guruvayur Temple pond, which included a non-Hindu participant. According to the temple's Devaswom Board, the pond is considered extremely sacred, and photography, filming, and the entry of non-Hindus are strictly prohibited here. After the video went viral, the temple administration stated that Jaffer's actions violated the temple's traditions and hurt religious sentiments. Following this incident, special Punyaham rituals will be conducted in the temple for six days.

The Devaswom Board stated that the ritual will involve repeating 18 poojas and 18 sheevelis. Temple visits will also be restricted during this period. This step has been taken to maintain the sanctity of the pond where Lord Krishna is traditionally bathed. The temple administrator filed a formal complaint, stating that Jasmin Jaffer's actions hurt the religious beliefs of the temple. The administration clarified that the sanctity of the temple premises will always be a top priority, and violations will be dealt with strictly.

Jasmin Jaffer's Statement

After heavy criticism, Jasmin Jaffer publicly apologized. She said, "My intention was not to offend or cause trouble to anyone. I made a mistake out of ignorance, and I sincerely apologize." Jaffer also clarified that she was unaware of the temple rules and the ban on the entry of non-Hindus into the pond. Her statement indicates that it was an unintentional incident, but the debate about it has gained momentum on social media.

Guruvayur Temple, often called the "Dwarka of the South," is one of the major and most revered pilgrimage sites in Kerala. This temple is dedicated to the infant form of Lord Krishna and attracts millions of devotees every year.

The temple's strict traditions, such as Annaprashan, Thulabharam, and the daily Sheeveli procession, make it unique. The pond and ritualistic events further enhance its spiritual and cultural significance. The temple's popularity is such that the waiting period for some pujas can be several months or years.
