Jayden Seales Fined 25% Match Fee, Receives Demerit Point for ICC Code of Conduct Breach

A controversial incident on the first day of the Delhi Test between India and West Indies drew everyone's attention. West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been found guilty by the ICC (International Cricket Council) of breaching its Code of Conduct.

SPORTS NEWS: West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been found guilty of a Level-1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct on the first day of the ongoing second Test match against India. For this breach, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined him 25 percent of his match fee and added one demerit point to his disciplinary record.

The incident occurred on Friday, the first day of the Delhi Test, during India's first innings in the 29th over. After bowling, Seales angrily threw the ball towards batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, which struck his pads. The ICC deemed this conduct against the spirit of the game and took action.

What was the full incident?

The incident took place on Friday, the first day of the Delhi Test, during the 29th over of India's first innings. Seales appeared frustrated after bowling and suddenly threw the ball towards Yashasvi Jaiswal. The ball directly hit his pads, creating a slight tension on the field. The umpires immediately intervened and referred the matter to Match Referee Andy Pycroft.

The ICC later issued a statement saying that Seales had breached Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This article relates to throwing a ball or any other piece of equipment at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during a match.

Due to this breach, Seales was found guilty of a Level-1 offense. For Level-1 offenses, the minimum penalty is a warning, and the maximum penalty can be a 50% fine and 1-2 demerit points. In this instance, Seales was fined 25% of his match fee and received 1 demerit point.

Seales offered explanation, but argument not accepted

With this sanction, Seales now has a total of two demerit points on his disciplinary record within the last 24 months. According to ICC regulations, if a player accumulates four or more demerit points within a two-year period, they may face a suspension. This means Seales will now need to pay close attention to his conduct in the future.

Seales challenged the sanction imposed by Match Referee Andy Pycroft. He contended that he did it "in an attempt to run out" the batsman. However, after reviewing multiple replays, the Match Referee found that the batsman was already inside the crease and Seales' throw was "unnecessary and inappropriate." On-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Paul Reiffel, along with third umpire Alex Wharf, and fourth umpire K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan, had prepared the report on the incident.
