Kanpur: The court has sentenced former sub-inspector Gyanendra Singh, convicted in the high-profile 2015 Isha murder case, to life imprisonment. The court of Special Judge Shuchi Srivastava found him guilty of murder and awarded him life imprisonment along with a fine. Meanwhile, the other five accused involved in the case were acquitted due to a lack of evidence. After a decade-long legal battle, Isha Sachan's family received justice, which brought to light the story of the policeman's cruelty and deceit.
Gyanendra Brutally Murdered Isha
The incident dates back to May 19, 2015, when Gyanendra Singh brutally murdered his alleged wife/girlfriend, Isha Sachan. According to police investigation, he slit Isha's throat with a knife and severed her head from her torso to make identification of the body difficult. Subsequently, the torso was thrown into the Yamuna River, while the head was hidden somewhere in Kanpur.
On May 22, 2015, the body was found in Kaushambi district. Police identified her based on a tattoo, watch, and jewelry. The family stated that before the murder, Gyanendra had called Isha out of her home under a pretext. The investigation also revealed that Gyanendra attempted to destroy evidence with the help of his associates.
Marital Dispute and Domestic Violence
Isha was a resident of Kanpur, and Gyanendra had allegedly married her a second time. The family accused Gyanendra of concealing information about his first marriage and that he had two children from his first wife. Disputes escalated after the marriage, and Isha filed several complaints with the police.
The family stated that Gyanendra was having an affair with another woman and wanted to get rid of Isha. Disputes over the children's birth certificates and the father's name further exacerbated their marital problems. Due to domestic violence and threats, Isha was under immense mental stress.
Police Action and Investigation
Upon Isha's disappearance, a case of abduction was registered at Kakadeo police station. After the discovery of her body in Kaushambi, the case was converted to murder. Police implicated Gyanendra and his associates Rakesh, Sanjeev, Jitendra, Santosh, and Rajesh.
Police conducted investigations based on mobile location data, call records, and forensic evidence. Gyanendra was arrested, and his associates were also implicated. During his time in jail, he created several controversies, but his crime was proven based on evidence and witness testimonies.
Court's Verdict
The prosecution presented 11 witnesses in court, including Isha's family members, police officers, and forensic experts. The court found Gyanendra guilty under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code.
In its verdict pronounced on September 24, 2025, the court stated that Gyanendra's cruelty was unacceptable. The other accused were acquitted due to insufficient evidence. Isha's family welcomed the verdict, calling it justice for their daughter's soul. The deceased's daughter, Sanaya, is now with her grandmother, and the family is trying to move forward with this triumph of justice.
