New Delhi. Surekha Yadav, Asia's first female locomotive pilot, is retiring this month on September 30, after 36 years of remarkable service. She has set an example of women's empowerment in Indian Railways and has inspired countless women throughout her career.

Central Railway announced on Thursday in a post on social media platform X that Surekha Yadav will retire after a distinguished career spanning 36 years. The post stated that as a true trailblazer, she overcame many obstacles and proved that no dream is impossible. Her journey will continue to be a symbol of women's empowerment in Indian Railways.

Surekha Yadav's Career and Achievements

Surekha Yadav was born in Satara, Maharashtra. She completed a diploma in Electrical Engineering before becoming a locomotive pilot. She began her career as a trained assistant driver. Subsequently, she ascended to the top position, overcoming numerous challenges and obstacles in a male-dominated field.

In 2023, Surekha Yadav also became the first female loco pilot to operate the Vande Bharat Express from Solapur to CSMT. This achievement earned her recognition at both state and national levels.

Central Railway Extends a Grand Welcome

Upon her arrival at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) aboard Train No. 22222, the Hazrat Nizamuddin-CSMT Rajdhani Express, Surekha Yadav received a grand welcome from her colleagues. Central Railway's post stated that her contributions and achievements have given a new dimension to women's empowerment in the world of railways.

Anand Mahindra Extends Congratulations

Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, extended his best wishes to Surekha Yadav on her retirement. He wrote in his post, "Congratulations, Surekha ji, for being a pioneer. My best wishes on your retirement after such a long career of public service."

Anand Mahindra also stated, "Thank you for reminding us today that such distinguished change-makers should be honored and their contributions never forgotten."
