In Kanpur, a case of gas cylinder black marketing has emerged, prompting action by the administration and the supply department. A gas agency owner has been arrested following an operation carried out by officials.
Authorities conducted raids at two separate locations during the investigation, where indications of large-scale illegal transactions involving gas cylinders were found. Following the operation, gas supply to around 150 large factories has been halted, affecting production in several places.
According to officials, complaints about black marketing of cylinders had been received for a long time. The investigation found that domestic gas cylinders were being illegally supplied for commercial use. Based on this information, the administration planned simultaneous raids at two locations.
During the raids, several documents and records were seized and are currently under examination.
Officials said that a large number of cylinders were being supplied through the agency to nearby factories and business operators. As a result, ordinary consumers were unable to obtain gas on time.
After the action, gas supply to several industrial units stopped suddenly, affecting work at those facilities.
The shortage of gas has also affected social events. In several places, gas is not available for cooking during wedding ceremonies and other functions. People have been compelled to rely on wood or other traditional methods for cooking, creating additional difficulties for organisers.
The administration said black marketing had caused considerable problems for ordinary consumers. A detailed investigation is being conducted to identify the entire network involved. Officials believe more people may be connected to the case.
The arrested agency owner is currently being questioned. Authorities said further action may be taken based on the investigation. Officials are also working to ensure regular supply of gas cylinders to ordinary consumers and to prevent such black marketing.
