Kanpur: A person defrauded a teacher couple of Rs 14.50 lakh by luring them with a job in the metro. The couple was handed a fake appointment letter, and when they demanded their money back, the accused gave them a cheque of Rs 8 lakh, but it bounced.

Key Details of the Incident

The swindler had introduced himself as a mechanical engineer in the metro. The complainant couple alleged that they were taken Rs 6.23 lakh + Rs 8 lakh and a separate amount for the wife's job, all in the name of securing employment. Both were also given appointment letters, but when they reached the headquarters, the letters turned out to be fake. When they demanded their money back, cheques were issued, but they bounced.

The case has been registered at Nawabganj police station, and the police are investigating. It is alleged that the accused has similarly defrauded other people as well.

Police Action and Challenges

In cases of such fraud, authorities face difficulties in collecting evidence—such as bank transaction records, fake letters, mobile number tracking, etc. The accused often flee across state borders or use multiple addresses. Victims lose faith, and recovering the money becomes difficult.
