Special Changes at Kashi Vishwanath Temple During Lunar Eclipse
Major alterations have been made to the puja arrangements at Kashi Vishwanath Temple during the total lunar eclipse on September 7. The temple administration has clarified that on this day, the temple doors will be closed about 2 hours before the eclipse begins. Consequently, devotees will have to complete their darshan before the designated time.
Temple Doors to Close 2 Hours Early
According to the temple administration, the lunar eclipse will begin in Kashi from 9:57 PM and will continue until 1:27 AM. As per tradition, the temple doors will be closed approximately 2 hours before the onset of the eclipse. This means that entry to the temple will be restricted from the evening, and darshan will resume only after the eclipse concludes.
What the Official Said Regarding Sutak Period
The Chief Executive Officer of the temple, Vishwabhushan Mishra, stated that according to religious scriptures, the Sutak period begins 9 hours before a lunar eclipse and 12 hours before a solar eclipse. However, Sutak does not affect Lord Vishwanath, as he is the lord of all deities, Yakshas, Gandharvas, and Asuras. Nevertheless, to uphold tradition, the temple doors are closed 2 hours in advance.
Changes in Aarti and Puja Timings
In anticipation of the eclipse, the temple administration has also revised the timings for Aarti and puja. On this day, the Sandhya Aarti will be held from 4 PM to 5 PM, Shringar Bhog Aarti from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM, and Shayan Aarti from 7 PM to 7:30 PM. Immediately after the completion of the Shayan Aarti, the temple doors will be closed and will be reopened only after the eclipse has ended.
