A seventh-grade student was found hanging in her hostel room in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district. Preliminary investigations suggest the student was suffering from depression. The Collector has ordered an inquiry and directed that counselors be sent to all hostels.
Khargone: A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district. A seventh-grade student was found hanging in her room at the Kanya Shiksha Parisar (Girls' Education Complex) in Surpala, Gogawan area of the district. Preliminary investigations indicate that the student was suffering from depression. Following the incident, the administration has taken action, and the District Collector has instructed that counselors be appointed in all hostels to prevent such incidents in the future.
Student's Body Found in Hostel Room
According to information, the deceased 13-year-old tribal student was studying in the seventh grade at the Kanya Shiksha Parisar in Surpala. She had returned just two days earlier from her village Rupkheda after celebrating Diwali holidays. On Tuesday morning, she had breakfast with other hostel students and then went to her room.
When the student did not come out of her room by noon, the hostel superintendent was informed. Upon breaking down the door, the student was found hanging from the window. Teachers and students present at the scene were shocked. Upon receiving news of the incident, the police arrived and began their investigation.
Investigation into Student's Death Underway
Police stated that no suicide note was found in the room. The body was sent for post-mortem and later handed over to the family. Preliminary investigation revealed that the student had been mentally distressed and suffering from depression for some time.
According to her family, she had become quite withdrawn after the death of a family member a few months ago. Moreover, she had fallen ill a month and a half earlier, after which her behavior became even more subdued.
Collector Orders Inquiry into the Matter
Upon receiving information about the incident, District Collector Bhavya Mittal took immediate cognizance. She has instructed the SDM Khargone and Assistant Commissioner of Tribal Affairs Department, Iqbal Adil, to investigate the matter and submit a report. The administration has assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted into this case, and the reasons behind the student's mental state will be ascertained.
Counselors to Reach All Hostels in the District
Following this incident, Collector Bhavya Mittal took a significant step by ordering counselors to be sent to all 160 hostels in the district. She stated that counselors will establish communication with students, understand their emotional state, and provide help when needed.
The Collector also directed that if any student faces any problem, the warden, superintendent, or family members should be informed immediately. This tragic incident in Khargone not only highlights the need for mental health awareness in educational institutions but also demonstrates that timely communication and support can save many lives.
