A violent incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday at a reputed weekend club in Kolkata has raised questions about the city's safety and security. A woman was reportedly molested, assaulted, and attacked with beer bottles during a party. The victim and her family hid in a club room for about half an hour to save their lives. Police have currently registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Assault at Playboy Club
The incident reportedly took place around 4:15 AM on Sunday. The woman was partying with her husband, brother, and some friends at Kolkata's Playboy Club. During this time, an argument began between some individuals, which quickly escalated into a brawl.
According to the woman, the accused Nasir Khan, his nephew Junaid Khan, and their associates first argued with her family, then forcibly molested and assaulted them. When the woman's brother tried to intervene, the accused threw glasses and beer bottles at him. Following the incident, chaos erupted in the club, and many guests fled outside to save themselves.
Hid in the Liquor Room to Save Their Lives
The victim stated that as they were trying to exit the club, Junaid Khan called more people who then attacked them. “Some people started touching me inappropriately and shoving me. We somehow managed to run into the liquor room and lock the door from the inside,” the woman recounted.
From there, they called 100 to inform the police. The police arrived approximately 30 minutes later and safely escorted the family out. Police have stated that no arrests have been made yet, but the club's CCTV footage has been seized to uncover the full truth of the incident.
Serious Allegations Against Nasir and Junaid
The FIR primarily names Nasir Khan and his nephew Junaid Khan. According to police sources, Nasir Khan was previously convicted in a gang rape case and was released from jail in 2020.
The victim has alleged that Nasir and his associates deliberately initiated the altercation and then attacked them. Meanwhile, club employees are also being questioned to ascertain the security arrangements during the brawl and whether the staff supported any party.
Statements from Both Parties Recorded, Investigation Ongoing
Nasir Khan has rejected all allegations against him, stating, “I was at home when the incident occurred. I have changed my life now and run a business manufacturing industrial thermometers.” However, Junaid Khan told the media that Nasir was present at the scene and was trying to stop the fight. He claimed that Nasir's bodyguard had pushed a member of the complainant's family, which sparked the dispute.
Police have recorded statements from both parties and stated that the investigation will be conducted impartially. Currently, questions are also being raised about the role of the club management and security personnel.
