LPL Tournament Director Samantha Dodanwela has confirmed that negotiations for including the sixth team are in the final stages. She said that "background checks of potential owners are being carried out and an official announcement will be made very soon in this regard." If this team is included, it will make the tournament's competition even more exciting.
Dates Changed in Preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026
For the past few years, the Lanka Premier League has been organized in July-August, but this time its schedule has been changed to November-December. The main reason for this is to give players a chance to play more competitive cricket in preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026. Samantha Dodanwela said, this schedule will give players ample time to assess their form and skills before the international T20 tournament. We want the LPL to not just be a league, but a b platform for Sri Lankan cricket.
The LPL has had five seasons so far, and the Jaffna Kings have been the most impressive in all five. The team has won the title in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024. Meanwhile, the 2023 season was won by B-Love Kandy, who defeated Dambulla Aura in the final.
