Large numbers of devotees gathered in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, with religious activities taking place across the city from early morning.
Devotees arrived in large numbers at the ghats of the Sarayu river, taking ritual dips and performing bathing and donation practices. According to religious belief, acts of virtue performed on this day yield imperishable benefits, drawing people from distant places to Ayodhya.
Crowds were seen throughout the morning at Sarayu ghats, with families participating in ritual bathing and worship. Many devotees also made donations to the poor and conducted religious ceremonies. Long queues formed at major temples in Ayodhya, where devotees waited for hours for darshan, with temple premises echoing with chants of “Jai Shri Ram”.
Authorities made special arrangements for the occasion, deploying police personnel to manage crowds and ensure security at the ghats. Facilities for cleanliness and drinking water were also arranged to prevent inconvenience to devotees.
According to religious traditions, bathing, donation and worship hold particular importance on Akshaya Tritiya. Purchasing gold, giving charity and performing religious activities are considered auspicious on this day.
Local residents stated that Ayodhya witnesses similar gatherings every year during this festival, creating a spiritual atmosphere across the city. The day also saw increased activity for traders, with significant crowds at shops selling flowers, garlands, prasad and worship materials near temples.
Experts state that such religious festivals reinforce faith and contribute to social and cultural unity. The large turnout of devotees on Akshaya Tritiya reflects the continued relevance of religious traditions in people’s lives, with the city witnessing widespread participation in devotional activities.
