A shocking statement has emerged from lawyer Rakesh Kishor, who attempted to throw a shoe at CJI B.R. Gavai. He stated that he has no regrets about his actions and is fully prepared to go to jail.

New Delhi: There was a commotion in the Supreme Court on Monday (October 6) when 71-year-old lawyer Rakesh Kishor attempted to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai. The incident occurred around 11:35 AM when the court was hearing a petition related to the restoration of a damaged idol of Lord Vishnu in a temple in Khajuraho. The shoe did not reach the CJI, and security personnel immediately apprehended the lawyer. This incident has shocked the entire legal fraternity.

“A Divine Power Told Me to Do It”

The statement made by lawyer Rakesh Kishor after the incident astonished everyone. He said he had no regrets and that he took this step under the command of a “divine power.” He claimed he received an internal signal that he should perform this act. According to him, “A divine power told me to do this. It would have been better if I had gone to jail. My family is not happy with my action, and they are unable to understand it.” Following his statement, several questions have arisen about whether the dignity of the court can be compromised in the name of religious or divine inspiration.

Hearing Related to Khajuraho Temple

At the time of the incident, CJI B.R. Gavai was hearing a petition related to the Lord Vishnu temple located in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. An idol of Lord Vishnu in this temple had been damaged, and the petition sought its restoration. The attempt to throw a shoe during the hearing of this sensitive religious issue undermined the court's decorum. Lawyers and staff present inside the court condemned this act, stating that it was against the dignity of the judiciary.

Bar Council of India (BCI) Takes Strict Action

Immediately after the incident, the Bar Council of India (BCI) took stringent action against lawyer Rakesh Kishor. BCI Chairman and senior advocate Manan Kumar Mishra issued an interim order, immediately suspending Rakesh Kishor's license to practice law. The order stated that his conduct was not only contrary to the dignity of the court but also a violation of the Advocates Act, 1961, and the Bar Council's code of conduct. The BCI clarified that such behavior tarnishes the image of the entire legal community and damages the reputation of the judiciary.

Rakesh Kishor Now Unable to Appear in Any Court

The Bar Council stated that during the period of suspension, Rakesh Kishor would not be able to appear before any court, authority, or tribunal. Additionally, a disciplinary inquiry would be initiated against him. The BCI also emphasized that a lawyer's duty is to respect the law and uphold the dignity of the court. This incident has made it clear that no one is above the law and that discipline is paramount in the justice system.

Family Expresses Displeasure

Speaking to the media, Rakesh Kishor's family said they were deeply saddened by the incident. According to the family, Rakesh Kishor's behavior was unexpected, and he had never done anything like this before. The family stated that they could not comprehend his actions and found them embarrassing. However, Rakesh Kishor maintains that he has no regrets and is ready to go to jail.
