Lucknow recorded 77.6 mm of rainfall between August 15 and 17, while heavy rain continued across several areas on August 18. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for rainfall from August 19 to 23, with the possibility of heavy rain from August 20 to 22.

The monsoon has become active again in Lucknow. A total of 77.6 mm of rain was recorded over the past three days, while several parts of the city received heavy rain from the morning of August 18. According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall activity is expected to continue from August 19 to 23, with heavy rain likely on August 20, 21 and 22.

Lucknow has experienced continuous rainfall over the past three days. A total of 77.6 mm of rain was recorded between August 15, 16 and 17. On Monday, 27.9 mm of rain was recorded between 8:30 am and 8:30 pm.

August 18 began with dense cloud cover. Several areas initially received light rain, followed by heavy rain after around 9 am. The intensity of the rain caused several parts of the city to appear dark even during the daytime.

Several lanes in Jankipuram and Faizullaganj were flooded with water reaching around three feet. Waterlogging was also reported in Gomtinagar, Aliganj, Banthra, Chowk and Thakurganj, among other areas.

According to meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh, rainfall activity in Lucknow could increase between August 19 and 23. Heavy rain is particularly likely on August 20, 21 and 22.

The monsoon remains active in Uttar Pradesh due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and increased moisture in the atmosphere. The northward shift of the monsoon trough and continued moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal are expected to sustain rainfall in Lucknow.

Lucknow has recorded 349.9 mm of rainfall so far during the current monsoon season. Normally, the city receives around 438.5 mm of rainfall during the entire season. The current rainfall is therefore around 20% below the normal figure.

The Meteorological Department estimates that rainfall over the next five days could substantially make up the deficit. The intensity and duration of rainfall in the coming days will play an important role in bringing the season's total rainfall closer to the normal level.

Continuous rainfall has also affected the city's infrastructure. A double-lane road leading to Gulachin Temple in Vikasnagar sank over a stretch of around 20 metres. The damaged section was barricaded and traffic movement was stopped due to the risk.

Road subsidence was also reported in front of Urmila Van. In Harikunwar Kheda village in Nigohan, the kutcha house of a labourer family collapsed following continuous rainfall.

Water also began dripping from the roof of the Municipal Corporation's Zone-2 office. The building was reportedly repaired around four months ago at a cost of Rs 8 lakh.

Rainfall also affected traffic movement in Lucknow. On Monday, traffic jams were reported on several major routes, including Assembly, Hazratganj, Hussainganj, Tedhi Puliya, Kursi Road, Aliganj, Purania, Polytechnic and Kamta.

A long traffic jam was also reported on the road from Hussainganj towards Hazratganj around school closing time. Continuous rainfall and waterlogging led to breakdowns at several power houses, affecting electricity supply in some parts of the city.

Amid the Meteorological Department's yellow alert, people have been advised to exercise caution on waterlogged roads and monitor the latest weather updates.
