Maharashtra CM Fadnavis Condemns Assault on Shopkeeper Over Language

Chief Minister Fadnavis has taken a strict stance on the viral video of the assault on a shopkeeper in Mira Road. He stated that while respect for Marathi is essential, hooliganism in its name will not be tolerated.

Maharashtra: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken a b stand against hooliganism and violence in the name of the Marathi language. Following the incident of assault on a shopkeeper in Mira Road, he clearly stated that respect for Marathi is necessary, but imposing Marathi on someone and resorting to violence is unacceptable. He warned that strict action would be taken against those who break the law.

Controversy Erupts Over Mira Road Incident

In Mira Road, a shopkeeper who ran a sweets shop was assaulted by some people simply because he didn't speak in Marathi. This incident was captured on camera and quickly went viral on social media.

According to the incident, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers reached the shop and instructed the shopkeeper to speak in Marathi. When the shopkeeper, asking for the reason, said that all languages are spoken there, the MNS workers started assaulting him.

Viral Video Sparks Outrage

The video clearly showed seven MNS workers slapping the shopkeeper. As soon as this video surfaced, sharp reactions started pouring in from the general public to political circles.

CM Devendra Fadnavis's Strict Stance

After the incident, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis gave a clear and b statement on this matter. He said that respect for Marathi is our responsibility, but it doesn't mean that if someone doesn't speak Marathi, they should be assaulted. He said that strict action would be taken against any person or organization that takes the law into their own hands in the name of Marathi. Violence or pressure in the name of any language will not be accepted in the state.

MNS's Argument and the Chief Minister's Reaction

The MNS claimed that the shopkeeper had insulted the Marathi language, so the workers reacted. The party also said that it works for Marathi pride and will not tolerate any disregard for Marathi. But the Chief Minister rejected this argument outright, saying that Marathi pride does not mean that anyone should do illegal things. He reiterated that Maharashtra is a state that respects all languages and cultures.

Action Against Lawbreakers

The Chief Minister has instructed the state police and administration to take immediate and strict action on such incidents. He made it clear that if any organization or individual tries to disrupt social harmony, the government will take a b stand against them.
