Amidst the political fervor of the Bihar Assembly elections, a major blow has struck the BJP, a significant constituent of the NDA. BJP MLA Mishrilal Yadav has resigned from the party. Mishrilal Yadav is the MLA from Alinagar constituency in Darbhanga.
Patna: Just ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, a significant upheaval has been observed in the state's politics. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suffered a major setback within the NDA alliance. BJP MLA Mishrilal Yadav, representing Alinagar from Darbhanga district, has resigned from the party. It is believed that he may soon join the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Major Setback for BJP Ahead of Elections
Mishrilal Yadav's resignation from the BJP just before the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections is considered a major blow to the party. He was one of the BJP's allied faces in Nitish Kumar's NDA government. However, reports of his disagreements with the party leadership had been consistently emerging over the past few months. According to sources, Mishrilal Yadav has submitted his resignation letter to the party's state unit and is expected to formally join the RJD in Patna soon, in the presence of RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav.
Mishrilal Yadav had won the Alinagar seat on a Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) ticket, led by Mukesh Sahani, in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections. After the elections, he left VIP and joined the BJP. Following his entry into the BJP, he showed activism on various party platforms, but his relations with senior organizational leaders were not good. While in the party, he had consistently faced allegations of "departmental indiscipline" and involvement in "anti-party activities."
Apprehension of Ticket Denial Increased Unease
Sources indicate that for this assembly election, the BJP had decided to field a new candidate from the Alinagar seat. Thus, Yadav's ticket denial was considered almost certain. Given the growing discontent within the party regarding ticket distribution, Mishrilal Yadav began exploring new options to politically "secure" himself. Political analysts believe that "the likelihood of his ticket being denied prompted Yadav to leave the BJP."
There is speculation in political circles that Mishrilal Yadav may now contest the elections on a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ticket. The RJD is currently the largest opposition party in the state, and Tejashwi Yadav views this as an opportunity to return to power in 2025. According to RJD sources, Mishrilal Yadav's inclusion in the party will strengthen the RJD ethnically and organizationally in the Darbhanga and Mithilanchal regions. However, an official statement from the party on this matter is yet to be released.
