Meenakshi Lekhi Injured: Former Union Minister and BJP leader Meenakshi Lekhi was seriously injured during the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. She fell from a mule in the Darchen area of Tibet during the journey, causing severe injuries to her waist. She was immediately brought to India after the accident. On Sunday morning, she crossed the Lipulekh border and reached Gunji in Uttarakhand. She is currently being transported to Dharchula by road.

Rescue Operation Conducted Overland

The biggest challenges in rescuing Meenakshi Lekhi were the high altitude and adverse weather conditions. Due to bad weather in the high Himalayan region, helicopter rescue was not possible. For this reason, she was brought to India by road. The rescue operation was carried out with the help of the local administration and ITBP.

Lekhi was Traveling with the Second Group

Meenakshi Lekhi was part of the second group of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. This group included a total of 48 pilgrims, including 14 women. This group entered Tibet via the Lipulekh Pass on July 14. She met with this accident during the journey. The pilgrims traveling with her helped provide first aid and immediately informed the authorities.

The First Group Traveled to Tibet on July 10

Prior to this, the first group of 45 pilgrims had crossed the Lipulekh Pass and reached Tibet on July 10. This route is located at an altitude of approximately 17,500 feet above sea level. Pilgrims are provided with accommodation in places like Taklakot, Darchen, Dera Phuk, Junghui Pu, and Kugu in Tibet. They circumambulate Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar, which is the main objective of this journey.

India and China Reach Consensus on Restoration of Yatra

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra had been suspended for a long time due to COVID-19 and border disputes. Recently, a consensus was reached between India and China to restart this religious pilgrimage. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reacted to this, saying that the restoration of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is being seen positively in India. He also said that this is a major step towards normalizing India-China relations.
