Meerut: A serious case of police harassment has come to light in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. In this incident at Bhawanpur police station, a youth, distressed by police negligence and harassment, consumed a poisonous substance. Following the incident, Meerut SSP Vipin Tada took immediate action by suspending the Station Officer (SO) of the police station. Additionally, a case was registered against three police personnel, including a sub-inspector.
According to police sources, Pushpendra Nagar of Mubarakpur (a transport businessman in TP Nagar) was robbed by two motorcycle-borne youths while returning home on Monday night. It is alleged that he complained about the robbery to the police, but instead of taking action on his complaint, the police detained him and assaulted him.
Serious Allegations Against Police
During the alleged police harassment, Pushpendra's two mobile phones and car were also taken into custody. He was released from the police station on Tuesday morning. Mentally distressed by this police action, Pushpendra attempted suicide by consuming a poisonous substance the same day and was admitted to the hospital in critical condition.
According to local residents and the family, this incident occurred due to the police's attitude. The family stated that Pushpendra was completely distraught by the police's neglect and assault.
Case Registered Against Police Personnel
Considering the seriousness of the matter, Meerut SSP Vipin Tada immediately suspended the Station Officer (SO) of the police station. Additionally, a case was registered against a sub-inspector and two other police personnel. The SSP stated that police harassment of any citizen would not be tolerated, and strict action would be taken against those found guilty.
The SSP has also instructed that Pushpendra's health condition be monitored and that he be provided with all possible assistance. The preliminary police report also mentions that the case of not listening to the complaint and misbehavior will be investigated.
