OpenAI has introduced Lockdown Mode and an Elevated Risk warning system in ChatGPT to enhance data protection and provide users with greater control over sensitive information. The features are designed for large corporates, enterprise teams and security specialists.
Lockdown Mode
Lockdown Mode is intended for situations requiring additional security. When activated, ChatGPT’s interaction with external systems is significantly restricted. Multiple tools and features may be controlled or disabled to reduce the risk of data theft or malicious commands.
Web browsing is limited to secure cached content, and live network requests are blocked. If the security of any feature cannot be fully ensured, it may be temporarily disabled.
Enterprise Controls and Compliance Logging
Enterprise users already operate under established security configurations. With Lockdown Mode, workspace administrators can determine which applications and features remain accessible under this setting.
Compliance logging tools have also been introduced. These tools track which data is shared with which system, providing organisations with monitoring and transparency. The feature is currently available under enterprise and sector-specific plans.
Elevated Risk Warning System
Certain AI features access the internet or external systems, increasing functionality while also introducing potential risks. The Elevated Risk warning system informs users about possible risks associated with a feature and specifies the conditions under which it is considered safe to use.
For example, if a coding tool permits network access, potential security vulnerabilities will be identified. As security technologies evolve, these warnings may be updated or removed.
