Pakistan Fails to Secure UNSC Support on Kashmir Issue

Pakistan Receives No Support on Kashmir Issue at Closed-Door UNSC Meeting. India's Firm Stance Prevents Any Statement or Resolution.

New Delhi: Pakistan suffered a major setback at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) when a closed-door meeting, convened at its request, concluded without the adoption of any resolution or official statement.

Following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan after the Pulwama terror attack, Pakistan had requested an emergency UNSC discussion on the Jammu and Kashmir issue. This one-and-a-half-hour closed-door meeting, held on Monday, ended without any concrete outcome.

Pakistan Fails to Secure International Support

Following the meeting, Pakistan's Permanent Representative, Asim Iftikhar, claimed that the meeting itself was a "diplomatic victory." He stated that while the Kashmir issue was discussed, no country offered explicit support for Pakistan's position.

During his statements, he leveled several accusations against India – including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the border, and restricting diplomatic ties – which he attributed to regional instability.

India's Firm Stance a Decisive Factor

India's b diplomatic strategy and its robust position within the UNSC prevented Pakistan from securing support. No resolution on Kashmir was tabled, and no statement was issued by the Council.

UN Secretary-General's Warning

Recently, UN Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern over India-Pakistan relations, stating that the situation between the two countries was at its lowest point in years. This meeting was convened against this backdrop.
