Bihar News: Purnia MP Pappu Yadav has made serious allegations against the central and state governments regarding the voter list revision. He has announced a Bihar bandh and a gherao of the Election Commission on July 9. He claims that the NDA government is snatching away the voting rights of the poor, Dalits, and backward classes. He will file a petition in the High Court on this issue.
Announcement of Bihar Bandh and Protests
Pappu Yadav, MP from Purnia, announced a Bihar bandh on July 9, stating that he will block roads across the state and gherao the Election Commission office. He has called it a conspiracy against the poor and vulnerable sections of society. Pappu Yadav made this announcement during a press conference in Patna and said that he will file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court on this matter.
Serious Allegations on Voter List Revision
Pappu Yadav alleged that the NDA government is snatching away the constitutional right of the poor, Dalits, and extremely backward classes – the right to vote. He said that this is against democracy and will be opposed throughout the state. According to him, the Election Commission is working at the behest of the government, and some sections of the population are being deliberately removed under the guise of voter list revision.
"I am willing to die, but I will not let the rights of Biharis be taken away"
Pappu Yadav, becoming emotional, said that he is willing to die but will not accept anyone taking away the rights of the people of Bihar. He said that this is not just an election but a fight for the existence of the common people. He claims that the government is tampering with the electoral process to suppress the voices of the weaker sections.
Targeted Nitish Kumar's Government
Pappu Yadav also targeted Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He said that during demonetization, the common people were made to stand in lines, and now, under the guise of "votebandi" (vote restriction), teachers and employees are being threatened. He alleged that teachers are being forcibly included in the voter list revision and are being threatened with suspension.
Called the Election Commission an RSS office
Pappu Yadav called the Election Commission an office of the RSS, stating that the institution is no longer impartial. He said that the voter list is being prepared at the behest of the RSS and called it a mockery of democracy. According to him, first, the money of the common people was taken away in the name of demonetization, and now, rights are being taken away in the name of vote restriction.
Demanded Proof of Citizenship from Indian Citizens
The MP questioned why the citizens of Bihar now have to provide proof of their citizenship. He said that Article 326 of the Indian Constitution gives every citizen the right to vote, but now Biharis are being asked to prove that they are not from Nepal or Bangladesh. He called it a deep conspiracy.
During the press conference, Pappu Yadav also raised the issue of injustice being done to Hindi-speaking people in Maharashtra. He said that the people of Bihar, UP, and Jharkhand are being continuously insulted.
