Parliament Passes Eight Bills Amidst Opposition Protests

Despite the opposition's uproar, Parliament passed eight bills on Monday. Kiren Rijiju explicitly stated that the government will proceed with the legislative agenda despite the opposition's non-participation.

Bills Passed: Despite continuous disruptions in the Parliament's monsoon session, the government passed eight significant bills on Monday. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju clearly stated that the government would move forward with its legislative agenda even without the opposition's participation. He emphasized its necessity, stating that Parliament's time would not be wasted.

Rijiju's Final Appeal to the Opposition

Speaking to the media on Monday, Rijiju made a final appeal to the opposition parties to participate in the discussions and allow Parliament to function smoothly. He stated that the government is ready to discuss all important issues, but the opposition's attitude is not cooperative. He also hinted that the monsoon session might end before its scheduled time, as the opposition is not showing interest in letting Parliament function.

Repeated Disruptions in the Monsoon Session

The monsoon session began on June 21 and is scheduled to run until August 21. However, so far, most of the session has been spent in opposition protests and uproar. Only a two-day discussion on 'Operation Sindoor' and the 'Pahalgam Terrorist Attack' proceeded smoothly. For the remaining days, Parliament's proceedings had to be adjourned repeatedly.

Four Bills Passed in Lok Sabha

Despite the opposition's protests, the Lok Sabha passed four important bills. These include –

  1. National Sports Administration Bill – For reforms related to sports management.
  2. National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill – To ensure fairness in sports.
  3. Income Tax (No. 2) Bill – With the aim of tax reform and revenue enhancement.
  4. Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill – For amendments to tax provisions.

Bills Passed in Rajya Sabha

The Rajya Sabha also passed important bills, including –

  • The Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Goa Legislative Assembly Constituencies Bill
  • The Merchant Shipping Bill
  • The Manipur Appropriation Bill
  • The Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill (already passed by the Lok Sabha)

Rijiju's Allegation Against the Opposition

Rijiju said that instead of discussing issues of public interest, the opposition creates an uproar on the same issue every day. He alleged that the opposition does not trust democratic institutions and is wasting Parliament's time only for political gain.

Government's Stance

The government's clear stance is that timely decisions must be taken on important bills related to public welfare. Rijiju said that despite the opposition's continuous protests, the government will complete its legislative work so that development-related works are not affected. The possibility of ending the monsoon session ahead of schedule has increased, given the opposition's continuous non-participation and disruptions. However, the final decision on this will be taken in the coming days.
