PM Modi Welcomes C.P. Radhakrishnan as New Rajya Sabha Chairman, Praises His Public Service

On the Winter Session's opening day, PM Narendra Modi welcomed C.P. Radhakrishnan as the new Rajya Sabha Chairman, lauding his extensive public service and administrative experience.

On the first day of the Winter Session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the new Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, C.P. Radhakrishnan. He highlighted Radhakrishnan's social journey, administrative experience, and public service as strengths of democracy, expressing hope that the House would be conducted with dignity.

Parliament Winter Session: On the first day of the Parliament's Winter Session, a significant moment unfolded in the Upper House as Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly welcomed the newly elected Vice-President and new Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, C.P. Radhakrishnan. The Prime Minister lauded his political journey, social commitment, and extensive experience in public service as a testament to the strength of Indian democracy. Modi stated that Radhakrishnan's rise from a humble background to the nation's top office serves as an inspiration for every Member of Parliament. He expressed confidence that the Rajya Sabha would function with dignity and effectiveness under his leadership.

Chairman Radhakrishnan's Journey Applauded

The Prime Minister stated that Radhakrishnan, hailing from an ordinary farming family, dedicated his life to social service. From his youth, he played an active role in social work and utilized politics as a means of public service. According to Modi, his unwavering determination and the strength of democracy are evidenced by his ascent to the positions of Vice-President of the country and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, despite political ups and downs. The Prime Minister also added that his journey is not only a symbol of democratic values but will also inspire future generations.

Discussion on Public Service and Administrative Experience

Referring to Radhakrishnan's previous tenures and contributions, the Prime Minister noted that his simplicity in public life and his thinking, free from rigid protocols, set him apart. He recalled that as Chairman of the Coir Board, Radhakrishnan led the institution to record profits. He also highlighted his work in Jharkhand, where he forged b connections within the tribal community. Modi stated that whether resources were abundant or scarce, Radhakrishnan always worked at the grassroots level, and these qualities make him a b people's leader.

Responsibility of New Role in Rajya Sabha

As the new Chairman, Radhakrishnan will assume office in September 2025. Prime Minister Modi extended his congratulations on behalf of the House and expressed confidence that all MPs would work under his guidance, upholding the dignity of the Rajya Sabha and adhering to its rules. The Prime Minister stated that Parliament is the supreme forum for decision-making, and better laws for the country can only be forged in a stable, disciplined, and positive environment. During this, he also referred to his long-standing professional relationship with Radhakrishnan as Prime Minister and said that his simple nature and clear political vision would strengthen the House.

Radhakrishnan's Victory in Vice-Presidential Election

C.P. Radhakrishnan secured victory with 452 votes, defeating the opposition candidate and former Supreme Court judge B. Sudarshan Reddy. He became the 15th Vice-President of the country. Prior to this, he had served as the Governor of Maharashtra and Jharkhand. He also held additional charge as the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. In his political career, Radhakrishnan was elected as a Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore twice and has also served as the State President of Tamil Nadu BJP. This extensive experience has given him a b administrative and political identity.

Commencement of Winter Session

The Parliament's Winter Session commenced today, with the formal welcome of the new Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. In contrast, in the Lok Sabha, the opposition protested against a specific intensive amendment bill, leading to the adjournment of the House until noon.
