Tension arose between two communities in Sarai Khwaja village, Mauaima police station area of Prayagraj, on Friday during a Kanwar Yatra procession due to the playing of a DJ. The incident occurred when the Kanwariyas were proceeding with their journey to the accompaniment of DJ music, coinciding with the time of Juma prayers at a nearby mosque. The worshippers objected to the loud music and demanded it be turned off. This led to a verbal altercation between the two sides, which soon escalated into a physical altercation.
Upon receiving information about the incident, local police reached the spot and pacified both parties, resolving the dispute. Given the seriousness of the matter, additional police forces have also been deployed at the scene to prevent any untoward incidents.
Case Filed Against 65 People
Following the dispute, police took swift action, detaining three individuals from one community. Furthermore, the police have registered an FIR against 65 people, including 15 named individuals. The Kanwariyas have alleged that they were assaulted and forcibly made to shut down the DJ. Police officials say that an impartial investigation is being conducted into the matter and strict action will be taken against the culprits.
Police Alert to Restore Peace
Prayagraj police say that the situation in the area is under control, but security arrangements have been strengthened in the area as a precaution. The administration is appealing to people to maintain peace. Local police and intelligence teams are constantly monitoring the area.
This incident has come to light at a time when the Kanwar Yatra is in full swing across the state during the month of Sawan. The administration has already issued instructions to all districts to exercise caution regarding DJs, travel routes, and religious places to maintain communal harmony.
