To make digital payments even easier in India, the startup Proxgy has launched ThumbPay, a device that facilitates payments using only a thumb, without the need for a phone, card, or QR code. This device is linked to Aadhaar and UPI, ensuring secure transactions, and will prove useful for rural areas and small merchants alike.
ThumbPay: To further simplify digital payments in India, the startup Proxgy has introduced the new device, ThumbPay. This technology enables payments solely through the thumb, eliminating the need for a phone, card, or QR code. Users simply place their thumb on the device, allowing for instant and secure transactions via Aadhaar and UPI. This device can be easily used by small shopkeepers, people in rural areas, and the elderly. ThumbPay's objective is to extend Digital India to every individual and streamline cashless transactions.
Easy and Secure Digital Payments
ThumbPay features a certified fingerprint scanner that minimizes the chances of fraud. It also includes a small camera and a UV sterilization system. Like a UPI Soundbox, this device provides audio confirmation of whether a payment was successful or not. It can operate on 4G, Wi-Fi, and LoRaWAN networks, making its use possible even in remote areas. This battery-powered device functions even during power outages and can be used by anyone with an Aadhaar-linked bank account, without requiring registration.
A Boon for Small Businesses and Rural Areas
The company has priced ThumbPay at less than 2,000 rupees to ensure its adoption by small merchants and in rural areas. Pilot tests have been completed, and after receiving approval from UIDAI and NPCI, it will be launched in the market in collaboration with banks and FinTech companies. This technology could prove to be a boon, especially for those who do not use smartphones or wallets, such as the elderly, daily wage earners, and people in rural areas.
Pulkit Ahuja, founder of Proxgy, states that the aim of ThumbPay is to "bring the power of UPI to every person's thumb." This device is expected to bring about significant changes in the direction of Digital India, as it will make digital payments easy and secure not only in cities but also in villages and towns.
The launch of ThumbPay can create new opportunities for small and large merchants and will make digital transactions accessible even for those who do not have the convenience of smartphones or mobile wallets.
