The Punjab government has announced the establishment of a semiconductor park, taking a significant step towards giving new impetus to the state's technological development. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, while meeting with representatives from the semiconductor industry in Chandigarh on Tuesday, stated that the government will make every possible effort to make Punjab a hub for this sector. He said that semiconductor chips are an integral part of almost every electronic device today, and their role in future technology will be even more important.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that the semiconductor industry is not only a technological advancement but also a major source of economic prosperity. He informed that this sector is contributing to the national economy with an annual growth rate of 20 to 23 percent. CM Mann assured that the Punjab government will provide policy support, infrastructure, and necessary resources for the development of this sector.
Wide Scope for Technological Expansion
Chief Minister Mann highlighted the multifaceted utility of the semiconductor industry, stating that its scope extends to electronics, automobiles, industrial automation, telecom, aerospace and defense, energy, health technology, data centers, cloud computing, smart devices, and artificial intelligence. He informed that India is rapidly emerging as a semiconductor hub globally, where capabilities such as fabrication units, chip design, and EDA (Electronic Design Automation) are constantly being developed.
Emphasis on Establishing Semiconductor Park in Mohali
The Chief Minister stated that there are immense possibilities for the development of this industry in Punjab, and the state government is fully committed to taking full advantage of these opportunities. He said that the government is working towards establishing a dedicated semiconductor park in and around Mohali, which will attract investors and strengthen the technological base. Along with this, he also clarified that this initiative will bring new employment opportunities for the youth of the state.
Industry Minister Sanjeev Arora, Industry Secretary K.K. Yadav, CEO of 'Invest Punjab' Amit Dhaka, and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
