Bangalore-based deep-tech startup QWR (Question What's Real) has made another significant leap in India's technological landscape. The company recently unveiled 'Humble,' an AI-powered smart glass, marking the first such device made in India to be driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI). It directly competes with the internationally available Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses.
What is 'Humble' Smart Glass?
'Humble' can be worn like regular sunglasses, but its true power lies in its hidden AI assistant. Upon the user saying "Hey Humble," the glasses activate and perform various smart tasks – all hands-free, using only voice commands.
These glasses can:
- Record POV (Point of View) videos
- Summarize conversations and meetings
- Assist with real-time navigation
- Play music
- And most notably, perform real-time translation
The Power of AI: Understanding and Summarizing Conversations
According to QWR, the AI assistant in 'Humble' can process not only audio but also video input. This means the glasses can also perform object recognition by observing the surroundings. For instance, if you are exploring a city, the glasses can provide navigation-based suggestions to help you reach your destination. Furthermore, it can listen to a meeting or conversation and provide a concise summary – a feature that could prove particularly useful for business professionals.
How Much Information is Available on Hardware?
The startup has not yet shared extensive details about the device's hardware specifications. Specifically, it hasn't disclosed which Large Language Model (LLM) or chipset is used to power Humble. It has been confirmed that the device will include an integrated camera, speakers, and microphone, enabling the AI assistant to understand the user's surroundings.
Launch and Availability Status
QWR states that they plan to officially launch 'Humble' by the end of July. However, device shipping will not commence until the final quarter of 2025. This means that if you are considering purchasing this device, you will need to wait until October-December 2025. Interestingly, there is currently no mention of the device on QWR's website. Only promotional videos are available on the company's social media channels.
QWR's Journey: From VR to AI
QWR was founded in 2017 by Suraj Iyer. The company has been active in the fields of AR (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual Reality), and XR (Extended Reality) from the beginning. Prior to this, QWR had launched:
- Two VR headsets
- And audio smart glasses called Aurl.
Aurl only had speakers, but the combination of camera, microphone, and AI in Humble makes it a complete intelligent wearable device.
What is its Significance for India?
Until now, such technologies were primarily limited to American companies like Meta (Ray-Ban Meta Glasses). But now, the India-made Humble demonstrates that Indian startups are rapidly advancing in the global innovation race.
Humble could be particularly useful for users who:
- Attend meetings frequently
- Are content creators
- Travel
- Or prefer technological convenience
QWR's 'Humble' smart glass is a significant step for the Indian technology industry. It is not only an attempt to give 'Made in India' technology global recognition but also signals an indigenous revolution in the field of wearable tech.
