Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will commence the ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ in 30 districts of Bihar in three phases starting August 17. This yatra is being organized to make the public aware of their rights and local issues.
Patna: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, will commence the ‘Voter Rights Yatra’ in 30 districts of Bihar in three phases starting August 17. The yatra was originally scheduled to begin on August 10 but was postponed by a week due to the demise of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader Shibu Soren. Now, the yatra will commence on August 17 and aims to raise awareness about voters' rights.
Launch of the Yatra and Key Locations
Rahul Gandhi is likely to begin his yatra from Sasaram, the district headquarters of Rohtas. During this period, senior Congress leaders and leaders of the Grand Alliance are also expected to join him at various locations of the yatra. State Congress leaders have stated that during the yatra, Gandhi and leaders of the Grand Alliance will raise issues such as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Bihar voter list, deteriorating law and order, unemployment, and the migration of laborers before the public.
Leaders of the Grand Alliance and Congress Allies
Bihar's Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and party leader and Member of Parliament from Wayanad, Kerala, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are likely to join Rahul Gandhi in this yatra. Priyanka Gandhi had already appealed to the government on August 4 to discuss the SIR, calling it a very big issue.
Schedule of the Yatra in Three Phases
According to senior state Congress leader and party MLC Prem Chandra Mishra, this yatra will be approximately 13-14 days long and will be completed in three phases. The complete schedule of the yatra is as follows:

- August 19: Gaya, Nalanda
- August 21: Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai
- August 22: Munger, Bhagalpur
- August 23: Katihar
- August 24: Purnia, Araria
- August 26: Supaul, Madhubani
- August 27: Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur
- August 28: Sitamarhi, Motihari
- August 29: Betia, Gopalganj, Siwan
- August 30: Chhapra, Ara
- September 1: Patna (Conclusion)
Main Objectives of the Yatra
The main objective of this yatra is to make voters aware of their rights. Congress leaders say that the recent intensive revision of the voter list in Bihar is an important issue and there are many questions in the public regarding it. Additionally, issues such as law and order, unemployment, and the migration of laborers will also be brought before the public.
