Rain Forecast and Statements Dominate Build Up to India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 Match

Rain predictions in Colombo, Basit Ali’s television remarks, and Suryakumar Yadav’s pre match comments shape attention ahead of the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 fixture scheduled for 15 February.

The T20 World Cup 2026 match between India and Pakistan scheduled for 15 February is under focus before the start due to rain forecasts, a statement by former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali, and remarks by India captain Suryakumar Yadav.

Basit Ali Statement

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali said on a Pakistani television channel that he is praying for rain during the India-Pakistan match. When asked whether he did not want to watch the full match, he said he wants the match to be affected by rain. His statement has triggered discussion on social media, where some users described it as a joke while others linked it to pressure and mental state concerning the Pakistan team.

Weather Forecast

According to the meteorological department, there is a high probability of rain on match day. Sri Lanka’s meteorological department indicated that a low pressure area may form over the Bay of Bengal, which could lead to continuous rainfall in Colombo and nearby regions.

According to an AccuWeather report, there is a 70 to 80 percent chance of rain during morning and afternoon hours on match day. Rain intensity may reduce in the evening and night, but intermittent showers could interrupt play. If rain continues for a long period, overs may be reduced or the match may be cancelled.

R Premadasa Stadium Arrangements

The match is scheduled to be played at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, which is known for its drainage system. In case of rain, the entire ground is covered so that water can dry quickly. Stadium authorities stated that if rain stops, play can resume within approximately 20 minutes. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 pm Indian time.

Suryakumar Yadav Remarks

Before the match, India captain Suryakumar Yadav responded to a question about shaking hands with Pakistan captain Salman Agha by saying to wait 24 hours and that there is no need to focus excessively on the issue. He also said that the T20 format allows matches to change at any time and that even if a team does not start well, one or two batsmen can take responsibility and change the course of the match.

Previous Asia Cup Context

During the 2025 Asia Cup held after the Pahalgam attack last year, the Indian team refrained from shaking hands with Pakistan players.
