The incident occurred in the morning when the children were gathering for the school prayer. During this time, the roof of the sixth and seventh grade classrooms collapsed. About 35 children were buried under the debris in the accident. A rescue operation was conducted at the scene, but by then 6-year-old Kanha, 12-year-old Payal, Harish, Priyanka, Kundan, Kartik and Meena had lost their lives. The injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals, where the condition of many is still said to be critical.
According to local people, the school building had been in a dilapidated condition for a long time and complaints had been made to the administration several times for its repair, but no action was taken.
Rahul Gandhi targets BJP government
After this incident, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed deep sorrow on social media platform 'X' (formerly Twitter) and launched a scathing attack on the BJP government. He wrote that complaints had already been made regarding the dilapidated condition of the school, but the government ignored these warnings, due to which innocent children lost their lives.
Rahul Gandhi also questioned whether most of the children who lost their lives belonged to the Bahujan Samaj. Does the BJP government not value their lives? He demanded an impartial investigation into the entire matter and appealed to give the strictest punishment to the culprits.
Kharge says – the dream of a developed India is hollow
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also described this accident as extremely painful and shameful. Directly attacking the government, he said that the government which cannot repair the roof of a children's school, how can it show dreams of making the country a 'developed India'.
Referring to the poor condition of government schools in Delhi and Jodhpur, Kharge said that school buildings in many parts of the country are so dilapidated that children are studying at risk to their lives. He questioned who is responsible when no action was taken despite repeated warnings?
