An 18-year-old college student in Rajasthan’s Sikar district was found to be approximately eight months pregnant after being taken to hospital with abdominal pain. Following medical examination, she gave birth to a healthy baby. Police have registered a case against an unidentified person under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant provisions and have launched an investigation.
According to available information, the student, who lives in Sikar district, is currently pursuing her college education. She developed abdominal pain on the morning of October 28. As the pain increased, her family members took her to hospital for medical treatment.
During the examination, doctors found that she was approximately 32 weeks pregnant, or around eight months into her pregnancy. The discovery reportedly came as a surprise to her family.
After assessing her medical condition, doctors initiated the necessary medical procedures and determined that she was nearing delivery.
Under medical supervision, the student gave birth to a baby. According to preliminary information, the newborn is healthy. However, detailed information about the subsequent medical condition of the mother and the newborn has not been made available.
The hospital administration informed the police about the case. Police personnel subsequently visited the hospital and recorded the student's statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation is focused on establishing the circumstances that led to the pregnancy and identifying the person responsible.
In her statement to the police, the student reportedly said that she did not know who had committed the alleged act against her.
Following her statement, police registered a case against an unidentified person under the POCSO Act and other relevant legal provisions.
Investigators are attempting to establish when the alleged incident took place and who may have been involved. No suspect has been officially identified, and no arrest has been confirmed so far. Further action will depend on the findings of the investigation.
Police have invoked provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the case. The legislation provides legal protection against sexual offences involving children below the age of 18.
However, according to the available information, the student's current age is 18. Therefore, establishing her age at the time of the alleged incident will be an important aspect of the investigation.
If she was below 18 when the alleged incident occurred, the POCSO Act may apply. Under the law, the victim's age at the time of the alleged offence is a determining factor.
Police will need to verify her age and establish the sequence of events through relevant documents and other evidence.
Following the registration of a case against an unidentified person, police are proceeding with the investigation based on the available evidence.
Investigators are expected to examine the student's statement and the circumstances surrounding the case. Family members may also be questioned if required.
If the investigation identifies a suspect, police will gather relevant information about that individual. Subject to the necessary legal permissions and procedures, investigators may also examine mobile phone records, digital evidence and medical reports.
Statements and scientific evidence can play an important role in such investigations. However, official details regarding the specific investigative methods adopted by the police have not yet been made available.
