Rajyasbha: Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were disrupted today by a vigorous uproar from the opposition parties. The matter escalated to the point where TMC MP Mamata Bala Thakur reached the stairs leading to the Chairman. Female marshals had to be summoned to the House to bring the situation under control.

Protest Began Immediately After 2 PM Start

As soon as the Rajya Sabha convened at 2 PM, opposition MPs immediately started creating a ruckus regarding the Special Investigation Request (SIR). They were demanding a discussion on the SIR. TMC MPs reached the well of the House chanting slogans. The atmosphere became heated, and soon TMC MP Mamata Bala Thakur reached the stairs leading towards the Chairman.

Female Marshals Had to be Called In

Marshals present in the House sprang into action to stop Mamata Bala Thakur from advancing towards the Chairman. Considering the situation, additional female marshals were called in to bring the situation under control. The scene inside the Rajya Sabha was extraordinary and tense.

Opposition's Allegation: Discrimination in Rules

Amidst the uproar, when the Deputy Chairman gave the Leader of the Opposition a chance to speak, he said that the rules of the House should be the same for everyone. He stated that not giving one side an opportunity for a Point of Order and allowing the other side to give a speech is against parliamentary tradition. According to him, the entire process was impractical and biased.

JP Nadda Cornered the Opposition

Leader of the House JP Nadda questioned the conduct of the opposition parties. He said that those members who are disrupting the proceedings of the House have no right to talk about a Point of Order. Nadda clarified that maintaining order in the House is the responsibility of not only the ruling party but also the opposition. He said that the opposition's disruption is the root of this situation.

Strategy of the Opposition MPs

Those opposition MPs who were supposed to speak on the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill 2025 also remained in their seats, only repeating the demand for a discussion on the SIR. Their demand was that the government should first discuss the SIR, and then any bill should be moved forward. This strategy almost brought the proceedings of the House to a standstill.

Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill 2025 Passed

However, even amidst the uproar, the Deputy Chairman continued the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha. In the meantime, the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill 2025 was passed by a voice vote. Through this bill, new rules related to maritime trade and freight will be prepared, which will be in line with modern global standards.
