Former SAD Leader Ranjeet Singh Gill Joins BJP, Citing Discontent and Promising Change in Punjab Politics

A significant shift has occurred in Punjab politics. Ranjeet Singh Gill, former leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and a prominent real estate businessman from Kharar, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This event took place on the evening of August 1st when the Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, inducted Gill into the party at his residence in Chandigarh.

On this occasion, Gill stated that he was joining the party, influenced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership and the BJP's policies. He also clarified that he now wants to be a part of the politics of change in Punjab.

Why Ranjeet Singh Gill's Joining the BJP Matters

Ranjeet Singh Gill, once considered close to SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, has now joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. He had previously contested the Kharar assembly seat on an SAD ticket, although he was unsuccessful. Despite this, he remained an influential businessman and social figure in the area.

In a media interaction after joining the BJP, Gill said that he wants to take Punjab forward on the path of development and found the BJP platform most suitable for this. He also expressed his gratitude to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and said that this political change was possible only because of his initiative.

Discontent with SAD Became the Reason for Leaving the Party

Ranjeet Singh Gill attributed his departure from SAD to the party's functioning. He alleged that hardworking and grassroots-level leaders were being ignored in the party, while outsiders were being given preference. He said that he was kept away from the party's decision-making process, and after constantly facing neglect, he decided to adopt a new political path.

Gill says that he will now work for the BJP with full strength and will leave no stone unturned in strengthening the party in the 2027 assembly elections.

BJP Engaged in Preparing for the 2027 Elections

After Ranjeet Singh Gill joined the party, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini reacted on social media. He wrote that “The people of Punjab now want change and this time, the lotus will bloom in every house.” His hint was clear that the BJP has now embarked on a mission to strengthen its political hold in the state.

Notably, the Punjab Assembly elections are to be held in 2027, and even before that, the political activity has intensified. All the major parties are engaged in strengthening their political ground by adding new faces and breaking old equations.
