Yamunanagar: In Yamunanagar, Haryana, people are endangering their lives to collect wood that is being carried downstream from the hilly regions in the lower area of Hathnikund Barrage. Due to continuous rainfall and the swelling of the Yamuna River, the water level is rising. Officials from the administration, Pratapnagar Police Station, and the Irrigation Department are making continuous efforts to remove people, but they continue to gather at the riverbanks despite warnings.

Yamuna River's Swell and Rising Danger

When the Yamuna River swells, it carries debris and timber from the hilly areas. As a result, the number of people collecting wood near the barrage increases every year. With all the gates of Hathnikund Barrage opened, logs are flowing rapidly, and people are congregating near the islands in the lower area of the barrage.

Local residents are venturing close to the barrage to collect wood even in risky conditions, thus increasing the danger of accidents. People are gathering on the riverbanks despite warnings from the administration.

Administration and Police Enhance Security

Teams from Pratapnagar Police Station and the Irrigation Department are continuously patrolling the barrage banks. Police officials stated that efforts are being made to remove people from the dangerous river areas. Alerts are also being issued by sounding sirens to prevent any untoward incidents.

On August 18, a person from Uttar Pradesh was swept away in the river while collecting wood in the same area. He was rescued approximately 2 kilometers away after several hours of strenuous effort. This incident serves as a cautionary tale for everyone.

Warning Issued Against Collecting Wood Along the Yamuna Banks

The local administration is continuously ensuring that no loss of life occurs. Collecting wood along the banks of the Yamuna River can prove to be extremely dangerous due to the river's swell. Police and administration teams are constantly implementing safety measures and rescue operations.

Due to continuous rainfall in this region, river water levels are rising, and debris is being carried downstream. In such a situation, people are putting themselves at risk by coming to collect wood, which poses a serious threat to their lives.
