Samastipur district health authorities have placed the health department on alert over Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) amid rising temperatures and changing weather conditions. Special preparations have begun in hospitals across the district as a precautionary measure.
The health department has reserved 10 beds for AES patients at Samastipur Sadar Hospital. Officials said adequate stocks of medicines and essential medical equipment have also been arranged.
According to officials, no AES case has been reported in the district so far. However, authorities said full preparedness is being maintained as a precaution.
Doctors and healthcare workers at Samastipur Sadar Hospital have been directed to remain alert. Instructions have been issued to begin immediate treatment if children show symptoms such as high fever, unconsciousness, or seizures.
Health department teams are also monitoring villages and primary health centres. Preparations are underway to conduct awareness campaigns among residents.
Special vigilance is observed every year in Bihar during summer and monsoon seasons over AES, as the disease can become severe among children.
Doctors have appealed to parents to provide children with clean drinking water and nutritious food and to take them to hospital immediately in cases of high fever or weakness.
Discussions regarding the health department’s preparedness are also taking place on social media, with people expressing hope that timely preparations will help address any possible threat.
The Sadar Hospital administration said availability of oxygen, medicines, and other facilities has been ensured at the hospital.
Experts said cleanliness, timely treatment, and public awareness are the most important measures to prevent diseases such as AES.
Officials said the situation in the district remains normal at present, but continuous monitoring is being maintained by the health department.
