Why is Sawan Somvar Special?

Since then, this month has become a festival of penance, fasting, and devotion to Shiva for devotees.
Monday is the day of Lord Shiva, and when Monday falls in Sawan, its significance increases manifold. It is believed that offering Jalabhishek (pouring water) on Sawan Somvar purifies one's sins, cures diseases, brings happiness to married life, and removes the fear of untimely death.
