SEBI Issues Stern Warning to Investors Against Sophisticated Scams Misusing Regulator's Name

SEBI has warned investors to be cautious of fraudulent messages and notices. Scammers are using SEBI's name, logo, and fake email IDs to solicit money and personal information. SEBI's genuine emails originate solely from '@sebi.gov.in', and all official information is available on its website.

SEBI Warning: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has cautioned investors about fake notices and messages being circulated on social media and other platforms, misusing its name. These messages are soliciting money, penalties, and personal information from investors. SEBI has stated that its genuine emails exclusively come from '@sebi.gov.in', and all official information is accessible on its website. SEBI had issued a similar warning to investors in June as well.

How to Identify Fake Messages

SEBI has clarified that its authentic email addresses exclusively end with '@sebi.gov.in'. Furthermore, information regarding every action and notice pertaining to SEBI is available on its official website. If an investor is required to pay any penalty or make a payment to SEBI, it can only be done through the links provided on the official website.

The regulatory body has advised investors not to trust any suspicious emails, notices, or messages immediately. Personal information, bank details, or money should never be sent to any non-official email or website. Investors must always verify whether a message originates from SEBI's official email or website.

Warning Issued in June Too

SEBI has indicated that it had previously issued a similar warning to investors in June 2025. However, the incidents of fraud are continuously increasing. This is why SEBI has once again appealed to the public to remain vigilant. The regulatory body has stated that investors can lose their earnings by falling for any fake notices or messages and making payments.

Important Instructions for Investors

  • Genuine emails sent by SEBI exclusively end with '@sebi.gov.in'.
  • The addresses and contact details of all SEBI offices are available on its official website.
  • Always verify the validity of any link provided in a notice before clicking on it.
  • Personal information, bank details, or any form of payment should only be made through links available on the official website.
  • Report any fraudulent emails, notices, or messages immediately through SEBI's official channels.

Rising Cases of Digital Fraud

In a recent report, SEBI has stated that individuals sending fake notices and messages are exploiting digital mediums. These messages attempt to intimidate or confuse investors. Often, investors are informed that irregularities have been found in their accounts or that a penalty has been imposed. In such false claims, investors end up losing their money.
